Jan.1955: HMAS SYDNEY [III] participates in an outback NSW children's health program from dry dock - G. Coleman, SLNSW.

5875. Another of HMAS SYDNEY [III]'s social engagements in 1955 was its participation in a Far West Children's Health program, a NSW non-government initiative that brought children from the outback reaches of the State to visit Garden Island. Now designated Royal Far West and supported in some wayt we understand by Legacy, the visit was a part of an educational and health program for rural and isolated NSW children that has been going for 85 years and continues today.

Quite segregated bertween boys and girls in 1955, here we see the boys about to enjoy their visit to the Korea veteran aircraft carrier, which we've just realized from joshblues2's comment below, is in the Captain Cook dry dock.

Photo: Credited G. Coleman, it is held in the Australian Photographic Agency Collection of contracted RAN images at the State Library of NSW [Mitchell Library] image ID NO. 00009.
