HMS BEAVER, F92, alongside RAN DDGs at Sembawang Basin, Singapore, Sept. 1992 - Photo CPO/CSM Jamie McIntyre, RAN.
4680. In her light Royal Navy Atlantic grey, the 4,800 ton Type 22 frigate HMS BEAVER rests alongside the RAN DDGs HMAS PERTH [38] and HMAS BRISBANE [41] at Sembawang Basin in the weekend after Exercise STARFISH.
Built by Yarrow Shipbuilders, HMS BEAVER was commissioned on December 13, 1984, and decommissioned on May 1, 1999 - therefore, she had somewhat less than 15 years in service. We're not sure what the story was there, no doubt budget cuts, but on the face of things it seems to have been a terrible waste of a fine vessel.
No reprieve, either. She was scrapped two years later, in 2001.
