Ca. 1947-1953: HMAS CULGOA, among the laid up at Williamstown - HMAS CERBERUS Museum.

2420. A photograph open to speculation as to dating. Without much to go on - other than the unidentified River Class frigate opposite and some similar photos earlier, we would guess that this is HMAS CULGOA at Williamstown soon after her commissioning on April 1, 1947, and that the ship under construction in the far background is the Battle Class destroyer HMAS ANZAC [II], laid down at Williamstown on September 22, 1946, and launched on August 20, 1948.

 

If correct, that would put this photograph at the opposite end of CULGOA's service career to that shown several back at pic NO. 2416, in December 1953, where she is paid off at Williamstown and berthed opposite HMAS VENDETTA [II] under construction. That's here:
