Feb. 10, 1941: HMAS SYDNEY [II]'s triumphant homecoming - Collection of Allen Porter, RAN.

2000. The photograph - one of many taken at this moment - shows HMAS SYDNEY [II] about to berth on the Eastern side of Circular Quay as she returns home from her Mediterranean sea victories.

 

With the single figure in the foreground, nt reflected here is the crowd of press and newreel cameramen on the old P & O. wharf where the line has been taken ashore, and the large crowed behind barriers in the Sydney's Domain nearby.

 

Sydney on this occasion gave the city's name-ship a huge welcome home.

The contributor of this photograph, Allen Porter was a long time president of the HMAS SYDNEY Association, or HMAS SYDNEY and Vietnam Logistic Support Veteran's Association as it later became, taking in the men whose Vietnam era service was connected with the fast troop carrier HMAS SYDNEY [III].
