April 1949: CPO Gordon Evans, RN, among SYDNEY [III]'s shrouded Sea Furies - G. E. Collection.
1969. A photograph taken on HMAS SYDNEY [III]'s 1949 delivery voyage. CPO Evans, an Air Artificer, had transferred to the RAN on loan to the carrier's 20th Carrier Air Group.
Although many or most of the RN personnel on loan were returned to Britain when SYDNEY was sent to Korea, CPO Evans, from Chatham, later migrated to Australia and became an Australian citizen.
We were grateful to have a long sequence of photos from his albums on HMAS Sydney 1918-1952 a short way back, including some of the most memorable images on the Unofficial RAN Centenary photostream.
Gordon Evans and his wife Sylvia at the time of writing [2010] had resided in the Melbourne bayside suburb of Frankston for 45 years.
