Edinburgh route 16
726 was one of a large fleet of Leyland Titan PD2/20's based at Leith garage, which placed it regularly on the 16, one of Edinburgh's busiest routes. It entered service in 1957 amidst claims by Baillie A Cabas that these buses were no more than a mass of shimmering tin, their movement giving a perfect synchronisation of rock n' roll. Its believed on his way to the City Chambers the magistrate had experienced the braking power of an Edinburgh bus (a regular occurrence for the average passenger), hence his rather controversial reaction. His sentiments were proved wrong with the reliability of these buses and the fact that many worked Edinburgh's bus routes for more than 20 years.
Like most Edinburgh bus routes the 16 crossed the city, its journey took it from Silverknowes in the north to Redford Road in the south west suburb of Colinton. 726 has standard screens with the route number 'centred'. It carries a colourful advert for Whitbread, who'd just introduced their products to unsuspecting drinkers in Edinburgh following their take-over of the legendary John Young's of Fisherrow.
