which 26 today ?

The old saying, 'you wait all day for a bus then two come along' could well be changed to three, with this scene in Edinburgh's York Place. Lothian's service 26, started out in Corporation days as tram route 26, and has over the years since 1943 evolved into their flagship service. A bus every five minutes crossing the width of Edinburgh will undoubtedly create a scene like this, known in bus parlance as 'bunching', even with today's technology. Back in the old days ? No chance as road inspectors were out and about to ensure the timetable was strictly followed - without the aid of technology !

A smart red and gold livery was rather spoiled by the 'harleyquins' pasted over the rest of the bus - all three of these Tridents have lost their red tops and are now found on service 25. Note the then common advert for Fly Globespan, an Edinburgh company who at the time of this scene had a turnover of around £100 million but despite its rapid rise and its popularity amongst travellers, fell into administration in 2009.
