Still looking at the detail of beached driftwood. A huge tree trunk had been washed up on the beach ..... it was one of many, making up a tangle of dead wood on the strandline after a high tide. On this one, there wasn't much bark remaining. I think it had been adrift a while, but where there were bits of bark remaining, they made striking patterns against the bleached wood.
