Amtrak - GP7 Early Pv. I Paint
by dcmkris
This is an Ho Scale Bachmann GP7 that was super detailed, kit-bashed and custom painted to match it's Amtrak prototype.
The real GP7 #762 was delivered to the Wabash railroad as #452 in Sept-1950. It was renumbered #1508 after Wabash became part of the Norfolk & Western. It was sold to Precision National in early 1977 who in turn leased it to Amtrak in April of 1977 which then purchased it in August of 1977.
The unit was painted soon after purchase in Phase I, Red nose with black roof. It would operate in this paint scheme until June 1982 when it was repainted into Phase II (3 equal stripes) paint.
I have photos of this unit operating at Los Angeles and Chicago but as with any Amtrak unit this unit and similar units could be found system wide.
This model has had the following detailing done.
1: Two extended exhaust stack added
2: Winterization hatch
3: Steam Generator Unit added
4: Blatt air horns added
5: Cold start equipment cabinet added
7: Drop grab irons added
