Motor carrier officers are armed members of the Michigan State Police responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. Motor carrier officers enforce traffic safety laws on commercial vehicles. In addition to their primary duties they also back-up other Troopers & officers in distress & accident scenes.
MSP motor carrier officers have limited police authority to enforce traffic safety laws on commercial vehicles. Since they are not MCOLES Certified they have limited powers when concerning non-commercial vehicles.
Motor Carrier Division had their own logo and car color "Light Sapphire Blue Metallic" up to approximately 1999 when the 1st Chevy Tahoe's were ordered. The logo was originally a roundel atop a rectangular box, this logo was discontinued around 1994 when a new "Badge" type logo was used. I don't have an exact date but I believe in 2007 MCE vehicles started to use the standard MSP "Lightning Bolt" door shield with gold "Commercial Vehicle Enforcement" lettering.
