Michigan State Police 2015 BMW R1200RT
The BMW R1200RT was the 1st non Harley Davidson's used by MSP's 24 strong Motor unit. A total of 9 were leased in 2012, with more in 2015. Cost in 2012 was $24,020.00 per bike.
The MSP Motor Unit was made up of 24 Motorcycle Troopers working out of the Detroit, Rockford and Lansing posts.
Sadly the Michigan State Police disbanded their Motor unit in January of 2023, siting the death of two Motor Troopers since 2015 as a substantial reason. I will let you make your own conclusion, while both tragic loses they occurred in 2015 & 2017. While bureaucracy moves slowly, six years is a long time to react to a safety situation.
