Canada Steamship Lines ~ M/V Thunder bay (3rd) @ Saint Clair, MI - Aug-29-2016 - Kristopher Crawley
While not the best photo ever, it's on the wrong side of the sun after all, I liked this quick grab shot with my cell phone.
CSL's Thunder Bay is upbound on the St. Clair River @ St. Clair, MI heading for BNSF's ore dock at Superior, WI on August 29, 2016.
Canada Steamship Lines - Self-Unloading Bulk Carrier - Trillium Class - M/V Thunder Bay (3rd freighter named Thunder Bay)
Built at Jiangyin, China for a cost of 45 Million dollars and launched on May-13-2013 the 3rd of 4 trillium Class self-unloading bulk carriers built for CSL.
She has dimensions of 739.82' LOA - 77.95 Beam - 48.39' Depth, she has 25 hatches spanning 5 holds, carrying a maximum 37,690 Tons of cargo. She is equipped with Tier II engines.
The second CSL freighter named Thunder Bay was built at Port Arthur, Ontario in 1952. It was converted to a self-unloader in 1969 and renamed Stadacona. In a somewhat ironic move CSL sold Stadacona to ship breakers in China during 1992.
The original CSL Thunder Bay was built in 1895 as the barge Malta for MN Steamship Co. it was sold to CSC in 1921. CSL then converted her into a canal type freighter and renamed her Thunder Bay. CSL sold her to Marine Industries in 1940 who converted her into the tanker Pinebranch. She would serve in WWII, and ultimately meet her maker when she was used as a breakwater in Nova Scotia, Canada in 1960.
