Obsolete oddball -[ #FlickrFriday ]-

The 35mm version of this sturdy cast iron Griswold film splicer was once the most popular cement film splicer, until the development of tape splicers rendered these spicers obsolete.

This one, however, is definiitely not a 35mm splicer. The channel, at 38mm (1½"), is too wide for 35mm film. The registration pin set has me stumped, not only due to the location along the centerline, but also due to the pin size and spacing that do not correspond to that of 16mm or 35mm motion picture film. If this splicer was for a special application that was popular back in its day, I have yet to discover that use.
