Kalart-Victor 70-15MC3 16mm sound movie projector with Marc-300 lamp
This projector used a high-intensity mercury-arc lamp developed by General Electric in the 1960s.
With a new lamp, the projected image was much whiter and brighter than ordinary incandescent lamps. These lamps, however, had a short lifetime (about 25 hours); the color balance would shift to purple as the lamp aged.
Once small xenon-arc lamps were perfected and adapted to 16mm projection, the Marc-300 system would gradually fall out of favor for the consistent performance and much longer lamp lifetime of xenon-arc lamps.
