Blossoming Still Life

I’m disappointed to say that I’ve joined the thousands of other Flickr fans who have had their work stolen and used without permission. I was shocked to see how blatantly they used my work. No sneaky distortions or crops – straight up use of my full image on items they were selling or as promotional images for advertising. One person is even using my image as her blog header! (A friend was kind enough notify me about these copyright infringements.)

I’m very supportive when people ask permission to use my images (as long as I receive credit), but this outright thievery is very disheartening. That’s why you’ll now see a watermark/name on my images. If anyone has suggestions on placement, please let me know. Does anyone else feel the need to place it near the primary focus so that the person stealing the image can’t crop it out? Is that too distracting? Is it an undesirable necessity?

I have two versions of this image. (These are my “I Can’t Believe They’re Carnations” again.) I thought the primary image presented a better thumbnail than the second. But I loved the way the second one turned out when you view it close up, so I included it in the comments.
