The Berry Picker - Cedar Waxwing doing what it does best - High Point North Carolina
I had a great time the other morning watching the Cedar Waxwings in a white mulbery tree. A flock of about 25 to 30 birds came and stayed for a short while left and came back in about an hour. I was at one of my favorite places to photograph birds when all of this took place. I thought the mulberry tree that was right near me would be a red berry tree but it is a white berry and they ripen a little sooner. I watched the Waxwings look at the berries and would pickout certain ones and pull on them then roll them around in their mouth even tossing and catching them again and squeezing them before swallowing. This day I also saw a Robin, Mockingbird, Starling, Cardinal, White-throated Sparrow get in on the Mulberry action.
