In 1991 the ferry company Euroway was formed around the idea of a line from Malmö, Sweden, to Lübeck, Germany, via Travemünde. Sailing over 10 kilometer along the river Trave with ships this large was a demanding, At wind speeds over 11 m/s it was not allowed at all.
