Getting Up To Speed

On a few occasions in late 2024 and early 2025, things came together and I was able to spend time photographing a number of magnificent great grey owls as they hunted.

They are patient but persistent. This individual was one that would move from perch to perch, mostly fenceposts, continually moving towards me as I backed away. It would sit and listen and watch. If nothing caught its attention, it would move down the fence line. At least once, it dove into the grass to grab a vole, but without success.

This image is one of the flight images from the sequence of moves between perches. It has just taken off from the ground, so the legs are still hanging down.
