When it turns it back to you, the male northern cardinal looks much more subdued, and closer to the female's brightness. Front on with the sun shining on the plumage and this guy will be your guiding light.

 

This individual has a tuft of feathers missing from the side of its head. Perhaps it neglected to bring a box of Valentine's grubs for his date. LOL
