‘I‘iwi - Singing in the Rain (Explored March 15, 2023)

If you can call it singing. Also known as the scarlet honeycreeper, the nectar drinking 'I'iwi has a call that reminded me more of a grackle than a cute little songbird. Found only on the Hawaiian archipelago, its range and numbers have shrunk considerably and is absent from some of the islands now. It is shown here on a māmane bush, which is a species of Leguminosae (also now known as the Fabaceae family).
