Cartagena de Indias

Cartagena de Indias is the most beautiful colonial city in South America, comparable only to Salvador da Bahia in Brazil. Walking through the narrow streets between colourful houses with old wooden doors feels like being transported back in time.

Cartagena de Indias was founded in 1533 and was the most important port of the Americas during the colonial period. Out went the majority of the exploited riches to the Spanish Crown, and in came the majority of black slaves brought to the Americas.
