Bertha to the rescue

Taken in 1988, a couple of years after deregulation and the reintroduction of buses by Midland Red West to Digbeth garage in Birmingham, the Digbeth Matador recovery vehicle on t/p 517 DA has just pulled in an errant, unidentified Leyland National which appears to have failed on Black Country service 240 from Cradley Heath to Stourbridge. Large numbers of Nationals were drafted into Digbeth from different parts of the Midland Red West empire to run services from 26 October 1986 in Birmingham and the Black Country.

The Matador, of course, continues to survive, and even work now and again, at Wythall museum after a spell of use at North Birmingham Busways.
