Nikkor Z-14-24mm f/2.8S

In my opinion, It's just not worth the cost over the nearly perfect Nikon 20 mm f/1/8. My go to lens for astronomy and landscapes. And I don't even feel the need to go with the new Z mount 20.0 mm, the old F-mount works just fine with the FTZ converter. That's just me. If you've lots of money to throw at this, and don't mind loosing 4 f-stops, while at the same time making it nearly impossible to see any of detail of the smaller stars, they just become part of the soup that is the milky way? If you want to make a comparison between the two lens here, you can go back a couple of days and see for yourself how they compare.

I waited at lease 15 years to get the coveted 14-24 mm f/2.8, because I thought I was missing out, but when I saw the results after waiting all those years. What a disappointment . But perhaps my eyes are just to old now to see what all the hype was about? Whatever, I'm sure they won't miss my contribution? God knows I've got nearly everything else they make... πŸ˜‹

But Godliness with contentment is great gain. (1 Timothy 6:6) This is a very good reminder to me, to try to be satisfied with what I you have. Which is quite a lot when you realize I lost 60 years worth of Photography equipment, and photos, in the Paradise Campfire in November of 2018. I'm pretty much starting all over again from scratch. And nothing was insured because I decided to change insurance companies just 3 weeks before the fire hit. I was taking my time choosing another company and waited just a bit to long. Not a good idea, turns out. So, no Insurance company is throwing piles of money at me, and you have to make every dime count in this environment.

So in my humble opinion this lens just isn't a very good business decision, when you can see the photographic evidence between the two lens right before your eyes. But having said that, and this won't break your piggy bank, go for it, you only live once. Best of luck to you, whatever you decide to do. But for my money, I'd take 6 or 7 20mm f/1.8 at $500.00 at the time of purchase over the Z-14-24mm zoom f/2.8, at $2,400.00 everytime and keep the change. πŸ˜‹

Some of the very best photos I've ever seen were shot with the new 20mm f/1.8 lens regardless of the camera in front of that lens. Just so you know. πŸ˜‹

Update

I did go ahead and buy the Nikkor Z 14-30mm f/4 S, and I'm just starting to evaluate it. So far, I like it, but I've not yet had the opportunity to give it a good test run. More to follow...
