Great-Horned_Owl_01
I spotted this guy sitting in a tree about a 1/4 mile away from where I was. I could barely make him out through the dense growth of that old tree he was sitting in. I had to climb a bob wire fence down a raven a long side a creek. I didn't want to get wet, or rip my pants trying to climb that fence, but there was no turning back now. Boy am I glad I didn't hang myself on that bob wire, it would have been brutal. I stalked him, though I'm pretty sure he could see me coming even though I was trying to conceal myself as best I could in an open field in the middle of nowhere. I crept ever closer till I finally came out into the open field, were he could see me easily, if he was even still there at this point. I could no longer see him in that tree, but I kept going none the less in case he was. As I stumbled through the water soaked grass next to the creek, trying not to break my neck, he allowed me to come even closer and closer, even though I didn't know he was still there for sure. When I finally saw him again I was only about 35' away.
He or she, became uneasy as I crept still closer so I stop in my tracks and just started firing away with my Nikon D800 whose shutter is so LOUD, clank, clank, it sounded, yet he didn't take to flight, he merely inched a bit closer to the end of the branch he was sitting on so he could make a quick getaway if need be. I think he was just as interested in seeing me up close as I was him. He had to be at least 2' high and weighing approximately 3 lbs. or so if ounce. He was a big boy that's for sure. I was thrilled to be able to see him up close and personal like that, and I thanked him for not flying away before I could get a few good pictures.
I came here hoping to find a different kind of owl altogether, on the other side of the field, but he was gone, so the Lord gave me another owl instead. I'm sure it was the Holy Spirit getting me to stop just then so I could see him, knowing how much I love Owls. Had I stopped anywhere else I'd of never seen him at all. Perfect timing as always when the Lord is involved. I've never stopped in this area before, it had to be the Lord. So thank YOU JESUS, Love it... :^)
