The top of this mountain is all Lava cap, from the eruption of the volcano Mt. Lassen over 100 years ago which is due to erupt again soon they say. It's very hard to walk very far in all this lava, rocks and boulders, but the beauty you see as you trek through this area is well worth the effort. However, they older you get the harder it is to traverse through the lava and you have to be very careful you don't break you're foot or ankle or even you leg when you do.
