A Wish of Peace to the World
You know that as a rule, I seldom comment on world events in my photostream. Flickr is my happy place where I escape from the wider world, which I find is becoming a harder, darker and scarier place with the passing of the years. However, I do make the occasional exception. The last time was when the war commenced in Ukraine. Today is another one of those exceptions.
Yesterday, several gunmen opened fire on a gathering of people of many faiths celebrating the lighting of the first candle of Chanukah on Sydney's Bondi Beach. Sadly, but hardly surprisingly considering the kind of attack it was, as of posting this image, 16 people have died, including one child, and 38 people are currently in hospital with varying levels of injuries. It saddens me so much, that I live in a world where such terrible things happen to innocent people, and I know that occurrences far worse than this happen around the world daily. I have only to tune in to my nightly news bulletin to see this for myself.
However, Flickr is my happy place, and I have no wish to pollute it with sadness and tragedy. Instead, I would like to express my sincerest wishes for peace and love to spread throughout the world. I have no peace dove, but I think this little Christmas sparrow with her sparkling, glitter decorated feathers is a very suitable stand-in. May she be the harbinger of peace, happiness, joy and love for you, and may she be a reminder that for all the ugliness in today's world, there is also much beauty to enjoy and celebrate!
Go forth my Flickr friends and followers, and spread the messages of peace, love, happiness, kindness, joy and beauty. You make my world a happier and more beautiful place, and for that I will always be grateful!
