Scout and Rosie Have a Final Game with Peter

PETER: "Wow! I rolled three! Now I am two spaces in front of you, mijn beste vriend Scout!"

ROSIE: "Oh mijn prins! You are so clever!" *Claps paws.*

PETER: "Oh thank you mijn allerliefste Prinses Rosie! May I please give you a soft, snuffly kiss?"

ROSIE: "Oh you may, mijn handsome prins!" *Blushes red beneath pink woollen plush.*

PETER: *Gives Rosie a soft snuffly kiss.*

SCOUT: "Well done, mijn allerbeste vriend! You rolled well, but the game has only really just started. We have soooo much longer to go before it is over, so you could be overtaken!"

PETER: "That is very true, mijn beste vriend. No matter who wins, it will be fun!"

ORSON: "That is very true, little Peter. It doesn't matter whether you win or lose, it is how you play the game, and that you enjoy the game. You are very wise for such a young bear!"

PETER: "Oh thank you Orson!" *Bows towards Orson.*

JAGO: "Alright Scout. It's your turn to roll the dice!"

SCOUT: "Oh goody! My turn! My turn!" *Claps paws and jumps for joy.* "Orson, would you mind holding Dolly whilst I roll the dice?"

ORSON: "I'd be honoured, Scout."

SCOUT: "You give good cuddles Orson, like Jago does." *Hands Dolly to Orson.* "Jago has held Dolly each time I have rolled the dice and I like to share the love around."

PETER: "Good luck, mijn beste vriend!"

ROSIE, ORSON and JAGO: "Good luck, Scout!"

SCOUT: "Thank you!"

PETER: "This was such a good idea, mijn beste vriend!"

SCOUT: "Well, it is raining outside, and playing games of all kinds, inside or out, are fun."

PETER: "Oh I agree mijn allerbeste vriend!"

ROSIE: "Besides, we want to make the most out of the time you are still here with us, mijn prins!" *Sighs.* "I can't believe that your holiday with us is almost over!" *Sighs even more deeply.*

PETER: "Oh I know mijn allerliefste Prinses Rosie! But please don't be sad! I hate to see you sad! You too, mijn beste vriend Scout!"

JAGO: "You know you can always visit Peter at Mummy Marian's via the magic portal, just like Daisy-Maud, who has gone to visit her gentlebear, Benny and enjoy some ice cream!"

PETER, SCOUT and ROSIE: "Ice cream? Grumbly tummies, Jago! Grumbly tummies!" *Rub tummies vigorously.*

SCOUT: "I know, Jago, and I know I will see you again soon, mijn allerbeste vriend! I just miss you when I'm not with you!"

PETER: "I know, but I have to go. Mummy Marian will need help with baby Rune, who is getting bigger and bigger all the time!"

ROSIE: "And even though I will miss you soooo much, my handsome prins, I know that Mummy Marian and Oleg and all the bears at Mummy Marian's house will be missing you too!"

PETER: "Oh yes! I need to go home so I can keep an eye on Oleg and make sure he isn't just sleeping all day! I also have some exciting news!"

SCOUT, ROSIE, ORSON and JAGO: "What?"

PETER: "When I was taking to Mummy Marian on daddy's bearphone the other night on a bearface call, she showed me that we have a new member in our family! Bear Charlie has arrived from Henley in England to live with us! I need to be there to welcome him!"

JAGO: "Oh indeed you do!"

ROSIE: "Oh how exciting, mijn prins!"

SCOUT: "A new bear to play games with mijn allerbeste vriend! How thrilling!"

JAGO: "Oh I am so happy for you and everybear, dear Peter!"

PETER: "Thank you everybear! I am looking forward to meeting Bear Charlie too! Now, roll the dice mijn beste vriend, Scout! Soon I have to go home, but I want to see who wins the game before I go. It may be me, or it may be you, or allerliefste Prinses Rosie, or Jago or Orson!"

SCOUT: "Yes, mijn beste vriend Peter! I shall roll the dice now!" *Walks up to dice and picks them up with paws.*

My bears are playing my Victorian edition of the French game, "The Game of Goose". The Game of the Goose, also known as the Royal Game of the Goose is one of the first board games to be commercially manufactured. It is a race game that relies only on dice throws to dictate progression of the players. The board is often arranged in the form of a spiral, with game pieces starting on the most outward part. All spaces on the game board are numbered, with some depicting an illustration of either a goose or a hazard indicating a specified action. The aim of the game is to reach the 63rd space before any of the other players, while avoiding hazards such as the Hotel, the Bridge, and Death.

My bears Paddy and Scout have made very good friends with two bears in Holland called Peter and Oleg www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/galleries/721577154558... and www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/galleries/721577233464... and their Mummy Marian Kloon (on and off) . Peter and Scout are very similar and have become best friends. Peter loves Rosie and Rosie loves Peter, so they have become prince and princess to one another. Oleg and Paddy are very similar and have become best friends too. Mummy Marian has a new bear living with her. His name is Little Bee and he is very special, as he is Bee Bear www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/galleries/721577239332... Little Bee will come and visit us in spring time when there are lots of blossoms around, however he flew Peter to the magic portal in Mummy Marian's garden. You can see that here: www.flickr.com/photos/66094586@N06/54654085846/in/gallery... or in the first comment below. Now it is time for Peter to go home, but we all know we will see him soon!

Scout was a gift to Paddy from my friend. He is a Fair Trade Bear hand knitted in Africa. His name comes from the shop my friend found him in: Scout House. He tells me that life was very different where he came from, and Paddy is helping introduce him to many new experiences. Scout catches on quickly, and has proven to be a cheeky, but very lovable member of our closely knit family.

Rosie is Scout's cousin, because like Scout, she is a free trade knitted bear from Africa. She was made in Kenya by one of the Kenana Knitters, Martha Wanjira. She is made from home spun and dyed wool. She was a gift to me from two very dear friends, including the one who gave Scout to Paddy.

Jago was a gift from a dear friend in England. He is made of English mohair with suede paw pads and glass eyes. He is a gentle bear, kind and patient who carries an air of calm about him. He is already fitting in with everyone else very nicely.

Orson, named after the little bear constellation, was made by the same friend who made Jago and Daisy-Maud. He comes ready dressed in 'trousers' made of German mohair accessorised with embroidered braces. His paws are ultra suede and his eyes are glass. He is described as being a little bit serious minded but very friendly. He's fine once he gets to know you.

Thank you to Marian Kloon (on and off) for the use of her photo of Peter in my photo montage.
