Paddington Receives a Big Compliment from Scout
SCOUT: "Paddy! Paddy!"
PADDY: "Oh Scout! Welcome home from Mummy Marian's! Did you have a bice time playing with Aurora?"
SCOUT: "Oh thank you, Paddy! Yes, I did! We had a lovely time playing together!"
PADDY: "Well I'm glad you had a nice time."
SCOUT: "Oh I did! We danced too! Aurora enjoys dancing, and she likes my pink tutu: you know, the one I got from Father Christmas and the Christmas Bear!"
PADDY: "You mean the one you are wearing now, Scout?"
SCOUT: *Looks down.* "Why yes, I do mean this one, Paddy!"
PADDY: "I'm pleased she liked it, Scout."
SCOUT: "But whilst I was dancing, showing her that I can do a pirouette, I lost my balance and my nose hit Aurora's nose!" *Puts paw to mouth.* "But Aurora said that she didn't mind. In fact she liked it."
PADDY: "I'm sure she did, Scout." *Chuckles.*
SCOUT: "She said my nose was soft."
PADDY: "Well it is, Scout. It's very soft and snuffly."
SCOUT: "Well, even though we were having fun together, and we were having the bestest time EVER, I realised something very important, Paddy!"
PADDY: "Did you Scout?"
SCOUT: "Yes, it is very, VERY important!" *Nods seriously.*
PADDY: "Goodness, it must be very, very important if you are nodding like that."
SCOUT: "Oh it is, Paddy!" *Nods seriously even more.*
PADDY: "So what was it that you realised, that was so very, very important Scout?"
SCOUT: "I realised that even though Aurora is a very special friend, and that Peter is my very bestest allerbeste vriend in the whole wide world, EVER, and that I had such a wonderful day in the spring sunshine and the pretty crocuses in Mummy Marian's garden in the Netherlands, that there was always something missing. Well somebear was missing, really."
PADDY: "Somebear, Scout? Who?"
SCOUT: "You of course, Paddy! I missed you!" *Points to Paddy with paw.*
PADDY: "Oh I'm touched, Scout! Thank you! Well, I missed you too, even if you were only gone for the afternoon."
SCOUT: "Really Paddy?"
PADDY: "Really, Scout!" *Nods seriously.*
SCOUT: "Well, I missed hearing your voice, and your gentle presence."
PADDY: "Oh thank you, Scout. That is the loveliest compliment I think I have ever had!" *Wipes tear from eye with paw.*
SCOUT: "And I missed hearing all those stories about ye olden days when the world was black and white."
PADDY: *Stops crying abruptly.* "Scout I... err..." *Sighs.* it wasn't the world that... it was only the tell... oh never mind! Thank you Scout. May I have a snuffly kiss from you?"
SCOUT: "Of course you can, Paddy! When do I ever refuse a snuffly kiss?" *Gives Paddy a snuffly kiss.*
PADDY: "Thank you, Scout! I missed your snuffly kisses. Now, come along. Daddy is just about to serve afternoon tea."
SCOUT: "Oh goody! All that playing and dancing with Aurora has given me a grumbly tummy! Grumbly tummy, Paddy! Grumbly tummy!" *Rubs tummy vigorously.*
My bears Paddy and Scout have made very good friends with two bears in Holland called Peter and Oleg (www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/galleries/721577154558... and www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/galleries/721577233464...) and their MummyMarian Kloon (on and off). Peter and Scout are very similar and have become best friends. Aurora is Nanuk's niece and lives with Mummy Marian after being blown there on a cloud from the North Pole, as both she and Nanuk are Polar Bears.
It is true that out of curiosity, little Aurora did go and explore Mummy Marian's garden, to see whether there was a Magic Portal, and she found it, but it was all overgrown.
