Paddington and Scout Show Emmett the Magical Faerie Toadstool House

SCOUT: “Come Emmett! Paddy! Jago! Daisy-Maud! Rosie! Come along!”

PADDY: “Oh, what is it Scout? Where are we going?”

SCOUT: “You’ll see, Paddy! I want to show Emmett something special!” *Trembles with excitement.*

DAISY-MAUD: “I’m intrigued, Scout.”

ROSIE: “Me too, Scout!”

JAGO: “So am I, Scout.”

SCOUT: “Oh! You have been to this place before, Jago, but hopefully you won’t mind going again! You have too, Paddy!”

PADDY: “Most mysterious!”

EMMETT: “I am soooo excited to see whatever you want to show me, Scout!” *Jumps up and down with joy.* “You always make everything so fun and full of adventure!”

SCOUT: “Thank you Emmett!” *Blushes pink beneath grey woollen fur.*

EMMETT, PADDY, ROSIE, JAGO and DAISY-MAUD: *Follow Scout who skips happily up ahead, leading them along.

DAISY-MAUD: “I wonder where we are going?”

ROSIE: “I don’t know, but Emmett is right, if Scout is taking us somewhere, it’s sure to be magical and exciting.”

PADDY: “Won’t you tell us, Scout?”

JAGO: “Yes, do tell us, Scout!”

SCOUT: “You’ll see!” *Giggles. “Come along!”

EMMETT: “How thrilling!”

SCOUT: *Stops at the base of a paperbark tree. “Look Emmett! Do you see the magic faerie toadstool house, right here at the base of this paperbark tree!”

EMMETT: “Oh yes I do!”

ROSIE and DAISY-MAUD: “Goodness! Look at that!”

EMMETT: “That is sooo exciting, Scout!” *Trembles.* “It’s a faerie house!”

JAGO: “Oh I remember coming here before! Scout found this magic faerie toadstool house when we were on a walk one day.”

PADDY: “Yes, I remember, Jago.”

ROSIE: “Faeries! How exciting! Maybe they will grant us a wish or two!” *Trembles with excitement.*

EMMETT: “Have you seen any faeries yet, Scout?”

SCOUT: “No I haven’t Emmett, but I’m sure we will soon!”

DAISY-MAUD: “Maybe we could sit and wait and watch for them.” *Sits happily in the sunshine on a wooden seat nearby.*

ROSIE: “Goos idea, Daisy-Maud!” *Sits next to the magic toadstool faerie house.*

EMMETT: “How do you know this is a faerie toadstool house, Scout?”

SCOUT: “Well Emmett, don’t you remember from Daddy’s books of faerie tales, little faeries poke their heads out through the doors and windows.”

PADDY: “remember that sometimes gnomes live in toadstool houses, Scout.”

JAGO: “And sometimes pixies.”

DAISY-MAUD: “Oh! And sprites too, Scout.”

SCOUT: “That’s true. Let’s keep watch and see who comes out.”

SCOUT, EMMETT, PADDY, ROSIE, JAGO and DAISY-MAUD: *All sit down and watch the front door carefully.*

JAGO: *Tummy grumbles loudly.*

SCOUT: “Sssshhhh! Hush Jago!” *Puts paw to mouth.* “You’ll scare the faeries and they won’t come out.”

ROSIE: “Or the pixies.”

DAISY-MAUD: “Or the gnomes.”

EMMETT: “Or the sprites.”

SCOUT: “Sssshhhh!” *Puts paw to mouth.* “Everybear we need to be quiet.”

SCOUT, EMMETT, PADDY, ROSIE, JAGO and DAISY-MAUD: *All continue to watch the front door very intently.*

ROSIE: “Paddy?” *Whispers.* “Paddy?”

PADDY: “Yes Rosie?” *Whispers.*

ROSIE: “How long will we have to wait for the faeries, or pixies, or gnomes to come out?”

PADDY: *Shrugs shoulders.* “I’m not sure, Rosie. Faeries can be tricky. They can be very cautious.”

JAGO: “What if the toadstool house is empty, and the faerie real estate agent is trying to let it out.”

SCOUT: “Oooohhh….” *Gasps.* “I hadn’t thought of that. I don’t see a to let sign. Does anybear else?”

EMMETT, PADDY, ROSIE, JAGO and DAISY-MAUD: “No Scout.”

SCOUT: “Sssshhhh!” *Puts paw to mouth again.* “Quiet everybear!”

DADDY: “Hullo everybear!”

SCOUT, EMMETT, PADDY, ROSIE, JAGO and DAISY-MAUD: “Ssshhhh!” *Puts paws to mouths.* “be quiet Daddy!”

DADDY: “What are you doing?” *Whispering.*

EMMETT: “We are waiting for the faeries to come out of the faerie toadstool house, Daddy.” *Whispers.*

JAGO: “Or gnomes.” *Whispers.*

DAISY-MAUD: “Or pixies.” *Whispers.*

ROSIE: “Or sprites.* *Whispers.*

SCOUT: “Or a faerie real estate agent.” *Whispers.*

PADDY: “But we haven’t seen one yet.” *Whispers.*

DADDY: “Well, I’m not surprised, little ones.”

SCOUT, EMMETT, PADDY, ROSIE, JAGO and DAISY-MAUD: “You aren’t Daddy?”

DADDY: “No. Faeries, pixies, sprites and gnomes are very tricky. They can slip in and out without you even noticing, even if you are looking intently at the door.”

PADDY: “Oh we know, Daddy.”

EMMETT: “But we thought it was worth a try.”

SCOUT: “Do you mean we won’t see any faeries today, Daddy?”

DADDY: “I don’t think so, Scout.”

SCOUT: “Oh no!” *Tears well in eyes.* “That’s so disappointing! I wanted to surprise Emmett!”

DADDY: “Oh don’t be sad, Scout.”

EMMETT: “That’s right, Scout! Don’t be sad! I have enjoyed just visiting this magical place! That is an adventure in itself!”

ROSIE: “I agree!”

DAISY-MAUD: “So do I, Scout!”

DADDY: “Don’t worry Scout. You and everybear will see faeries, but you won’t see them by watching out for them.”

EMMETT: “We won’t, Daddy?”

DADDY: “No Emmett. You will see them out of the corner of your eye, when you least expect it.”

JAGO: “Like when we are having a cup of tea and a chocolate biscuit, Daddy?”

DADDY: “Very possibly, Jago.”

PADDY: “Could we go home and have some tea and chocolate biscuits, then Daddy?”

EMMETT, PADDY, ROSIE, JAGO and DAISY-MAUD: “Grumbly tummies, Daddy! Grumbly tummies!” *Rub tummies vigorously.*

SCOUT: “Are you sure, Daddy!”

DADDY: “Oh I’m quite sure. You may not see them this afternoon, or even today, but I know you will see faeries soon, Scout.”

SCOUT: “Well in that case, let’s all go home and have tea and chocolate biscuits!”

EMMETT, PADDY, ROSIE, JAGO and DAISY-MAUD: “Hoorah!”

My Paddington Bear came to live with me in London when I was two years old (many, many years ago). He was hand made by my Great Aunt and he has a chocolate coloured felt hat, the brim of which had to be pinned up by a safety pin to stop it getting in his eyes. The collar of his mackintosh is made of the same felt. He wears wellington boots made from the same red leather used to make the toggles on his mackintosh.

He has travelled with me across the world and he and I have had many adventures together over the years. He is a very precious member of my small family.

Scout was a gift to Paddy from my friend. He is a Fair Trade Bear hand knitted in Africa. His name comes from the shop my friend found him in: Scout House. He tells me that life was very different where he came from, and Paddy is helping introduce him to many new experiences. Scout catches on quickly, and has proven to be a cheeky, but very lovable member of our closely knit family.

Jago was a gift from a dear friend in England. He is made of English mohair with suede paw pads and glass eyes. He is a gentle bear, kind and patient who carries an air of calm about him. He is already fitting in with everyone else very nicely.

Daisy Maud is Jago's little sister and was made by the same friend in England who made him. She is made of German mohair with floral fabric cotton paw pads that match her pretty sunhat, and glass eyes. A sweet and loving little girl bear, she is happy to be reunited with her big brother, Jago, and enjoys being spoiled by her new Daddy.

Made by Merrythought in England, Emmett is a charming little bear, sweet and smiling, crafted from multi-tonal marl grey mohair and featuring golden velvet paws. He is accessorised with a classic tartan woollen scarf. He is number 23 or a limited worldwide edition of 200.
