Cornelia Prepares to go Shopping
DADDY: "Cornelia. What are you doing, sweetheart?"
CORNELIA: "I'm just readying myself, Daddy. Now let's see... a clean handkerchief, a set of pearls to give to Moesje as a gift... a..."
DADDY: "Err... what exactly are you getting ready for, Cornelia?"
CORNELIA: "Oh, I'm going shopping with my best friend, Moesje. She has asked me to join her. Mummy Marian's sweet doggie, Fenre might join us too."
DADDY: "Oh!" *Ponders.* "And why is it that you have my antique reticule from the 1890s, Cornelia?"
CORNELIA: "Gesundheit, Daddy!"
DADDY: "Oh, that wasn't a sneeze, Cornelia."
CORNEIA: "It wasn't, Daddy?"
DADDY: "No, a reticule is an early version of a handbag, Cornelia, and you have my very special one from the late nineteenth century which is made of very fragile silk and velvet with hand embroidered flowers."
CORNELIA: "I know Daddy! Isn't it pretty?" *Admires reticule.*
DADDY: *Nervously.* "So, what are you doing with my very preicius reticule, Cornelia?"
CORNELIA: "Well Daddy, I saw you playing with it the other day, taking photographs of it, and I thought how much Moesje would enjoy seeing it. I promised that I would show her something you had been playing with the other day. And it serves a wonderful double purpose, for not only is it pretty, but it will be useful for me to put my purchases in."
DADDY: "Oh!" *Ponders again.* "But Cornelia, you don't have any money to make purchases."
CORNELIA: "Oh I know that Daddy, but Mummy Marian is taking my best friend Moesje and I, and maybe Fenre shopping, so she can handle the purchases. Moesje and I will just choose what we want."
DADDY: "Oh!"
CORNELIA: "Well, I think I have everything. So, thank you for lending me your very old handbag that you call something else, Daddy! I'm off shopping with Moesje! Bye-bye now." *Waves paw and walks towards the door, carrying the reticule with her.*
DADDY: "Goodbye Cornelia. Have fun shopping with Moesje." *Waves and looks bemused.*
My bear Cornelia has made friends with a little bear named Moesje www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/galleries/721577217879.... Moesje is a beautiful Bukowski Bear from Paal in Belgium. She has come to live with Mummy Marian (Marian Kloon (on and off)).She had been waiting in the dark corner of a shop with other bears for a long time, hoping someone would pick her up. All the bears were picked up, except Moesje. An appeal was made on the Internet and Mummy Marian sprang into action immediately! Moesje needs friends to love her, and Cornelia did not hesitate, for she has so much love to give to Moesje. Now Moesje's days are full of happiness.
Cornelia is holding a more recent acquisition of mine. I love and collect vintage and antique accessories, including handbags and their predecessor, reticules. This is an antique reticule from the 1890s made of what must one have been powder blue silk, now faded to a buff colour, with velvet detailing decorated with hand embroidered flowers. It has a brass clasp and and chain, and it has a wonderful tassel made of old bugle beads cascading down its front. The clasp is still very tight. Inside it is lined with more black velvet.
Cornelia, I found in an antique and vintage market quite recently. She is a vintage edition Russ Bear from their Mohair Collection. She is made of deliberately mottled mohair to give her that vintage look. One of a limited edition of 10,000, she was designed by artist Carol Hosfstad and is completely handmade.
