Scoutpunzel! Scoutpunzel, Let Down Your Hair!

SCOUT: “Somebear! Anybear! Help! Help!” *Alarmed.*

PADDY: “Goodness Scout! Are you alright?” *Concerned.*

SCOUT: “Ahem!” *Clears throat.* “Since I’m wearing my Rapunzel wig made by Daddy out of curling ribbon,” *Preens.* “You may address me as Scoutpunzel.”

PADDY: “Oh. Well, are you alright, Scoutpunzel?” *Looks around.* “Goodness! What a mess, Scout… err I mean Scoutpunzel! There are loo rolls everywhere! What will Daddy say?”

SCOUT: “Who cares what Daddy will think right now? Does it look like I’m alright, Paddy? Of course I’m not! I’m stuck up the top of this tower of loo paper with no way to get down!”

PADDY: “How did that happen Scout… err, I mean Scoutpunzel?”

SCOUT: “Well, I thought I might play Rapunzel with mijn beste vriend Peter and Spencer, but I didn’t have enough blocks to build a tower, so I imp… improv… I used loo rolls instead of blocks.”

PADDY: “How very clever of you, Scout… err, I mean Scoutpunzel.”

SCOUT: “Thank you Paddy.”

PADDY: “So how did you get stuck up there, Scoutpunzel?”

SCOUT: “Well, I built a set of stairs with the other loo rolls, and I was just putting the third roll of my tower up when I accidentally kicked the stairs with my paw and they all tumbled down and rolled away.”

PADDY: “Well, that would account for the mess, Scoutpunzel.”

SCOUT: “Who cares about the mess, Paddy?” *Stomps paw.* “Now I’m stuck up here like the real Rapunzel! I asked Dolly to run for help, but she didn’t want to leave me. Dolly is so loyal!”

PADDY: “Plus, Dolly doesn’t actually have legs to run anywhere.”

SCOUT: “Well, there us that too, Paddy, but ssshhhh!” *Puts paw to mouth.* “Dolly doesn’t know that. Anyway, how will I get down from here, Paddy?”

PADDY: “Perhaps you could take off your wig and climb down your own hair, Scoutpunzel.”

SCOUT: “Paddy!” *Gasps.* “How could you even suggest such a thing?” *Shocked.* “Then I would be bald, Paddy! Whoever heard of a bald Rapunzel, or Scoutpunzel for that matter?” *Indignant.* “Anyway, my wig isn’t long enough!”

PADDY: “Oh dear!”

SCOUT: “I know! I know!” *Jumps up and down excitedly making bells jingle.* “Perhaps you can unroll all the loo paper and pile it up and make a lovely soft bed for me to land in!” *Nods enthusiastically.*

PADDY: “Well… umm… err…”

Don’t worry everyone! Just at that time, I came along and rescued Scout… err, I mean, Scoutpunzel, and put him safely on the ground. He was very grateful! If you follow my photostream, you will be familiar with Paddy (my Paddington Bear whom I have had since I was two years old) and his friend Scout, as they often feature in stories and adventures on Happy Teddy Bear Tuesday and sometimes other days of the week, such as this photo. The theme for “Smile on Saturday” for the 20th of January is “creative with toilet paper”. Now this theme made me wrack my brains, and if I’m honest, it wasn’t until I had this idea, that I even planned to enter this week. I was stumped as to what I could do that was creative. I hope that this use of loo paper to create a tower is creative enough, and I hope that whether it is accepted to the group or not, that it makes you smile!

My Paddington Bear came to live with me in London when I was two years old (many, many years ago). He was hand made by my Great Aunt and he has a chocolate coloured felt hat, the brim of which had to be pinned up by a safety pin to stop it getting in his eyes. The collar of his mackintosh is made of the same felt. He wears wellington boots made from the same red leather used to make the toggles on his mackintosh.

He has travelled with me across the world and he and I have had many adventures together over the years. He is a very precious member of my small family.

Scout was a gift to Paddy from my friend. He is a Fair Trade Bear hand knitted in Africa. His name comes from the shop my friend found him in: Scout House. He tells me that life was very different where he came from, and Paddy is helping introduce him to many new experiences. Scout catches on quickly, and has proven to be a cheeky, but very lovable member of our closely knit family.
