Malachi Admires His Reflection

MALACHI: *To himself.* “Cheese knife, cheese knife in Mutzli’s hand. Who is the handsomest bear in the land? Of course it’s obvious that I am the handsomest bear of all. How co…”

MUTZLI: “Ahem!” *Clears throat.* “I have paws, Malachi, not hands!”

MALACHI: “Of course you have, Mutzli! I know that!”

MUTZLI: “Then why did you say, ‘hand’, Malachi?”

MALACHI: “Well, I should have thought that was obvious, Mutzli! ‘Hand’ rhymes with ‘land’, whereas ‘paw’ does not!”

MUTZLI: *Non-plussed.* “No but ‘paw’ and ‘wall’ do… well almost…”

MALACHI: “What on earth do you mean, Mutzli?”

MUTZLI: “Well, you know, like ‘Cheese knife, cheese knife in Mutzli’s paw. Who is the handsomest bear hanging on the wall’.”

MALACHI: “That makes no sense, Mutzli, especially as you do have the cheese knife in your paws!” *Shakes head.* “Now, please stop sharing your opinions and hold the cheese knife still. I can’t see my handsome reflection if you continue to fidget like that.”

MUTZLI: “But this cheese knife is rather heavy, Malachi!”

MALACHI: “Well, Mutzli, one has to suffer for beauty.”

MUTZLI: “I don’t see why I have to suffer for your beauty, Malachi.”

MALACHI: “Well, I should have thought that was obv…”

DADDY: “Malachi! Mutzli! What on earth are you doing with my cheese knife?”

MALACHI: “Well, I should have thought that was obvious, Daddy!” *Shakes head.* “I’m admiring my reflection.” *Preens.*

DADDY: “Indeed, Malachi. But I need to use that cheese knife. I have guests arriving shortly and I need it for the cheese platter”

MALACHI: “Well, that is a pity, Daddy.”

DADDY: “Why is that a pity, Malachi?”

MALACHI: “Well, I should have thought that was obvious, Daddy! You will need to find an alternative knife. This one is presently engaged in the vital role of reflecting my beauty, and that trumps the needs of you and your luncheon guests!”

MUTZLI: *Sighs and shakes head.*

MALACHI: *To himself.* “Cheese knife, cheese knife in Mutzli’s hand. Who is the handsomest bear in the land? Of course it’s obvious that I am the handsomest bear of all.”

DADDY: “Sighs and shakes head more.*

The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" on the 17th of November is "reflections in a knife". I thought I would add a little bit of humour and interest to my submission for the theme this week by using Malachi and Mutzli again after a long hiatus from this group.

If you follow my photostream, you may know that I collect 1:12 size miniatures, some of which have featured in past themes in the "Looking Close on Friday" and "Smile on Saturday" groups. This includes Malachi the bear, who today is joined by his cousin, Mutzli where the pair have appropriated one of my silver cheese knifes for their own purposes. I do hope that you like my choice, and that this photograph makes you smile!

Malachi I acquired in mid-March 2020 (and mid Coronavirus) from a wonderful Melbourne stalwart toy shop: Dafel Dolls and Bears, when I went looking for a present for one of my goddaughters. Malachi is designed by Mary and hand-made by Wendy Joy in Australia. He has articulated arms and legs, and an extremely sweet face. Malachi was the name he came with, written by hand on his little tag.

Mutzli was a lovely surprise gift from a dear friend in Britain who kindly slipped him into a parcel of other delightful gifts for me. Like Malachi, he is mohair, has articulated arms and legs, and an extremely sweet face. Mutzli got his name from the tiny gold tag around his neck. He is made by Mutzli, a Swiss bear manufacturer since 1949.
