Cornelia and the Moesje Flowers

CORNELIA: "Daddy! Daddy! Look at these beautiful pink flowers!"

 

DADDY: "Oh yes Cornelia, they are very beautiful."

 

CORNELIA: "They are almost as big as I am, Daddy!"

 

DADDY: "Indeed they are Cornelia. I am surprised to see them about at the moment, as it is still wintertime, and we don't usually see them until spring."

 

CORNELIA: "Well daddy, it does rather feel like spring today, don't you think? I mean, the sun is shining and it is warm, and there are blue skies."

 

DADDY: "Yes, you are quite right Cornelia. How very observant of you."

 

CORNELIA: "Thank you Daddy. What are these flowers called, Daddy?"

 

DADDY: "They are called Magnolias, Cornelia."

 

CORNELIA: "I think I am going to pick some of these for my best friend Moesje. I know how much she likes pink flowers."

 

DADDY: "Whilst that is a lovely idea, Cornelia, I'm afraid that you can't."

 

CORNELIA: "Why not Daddy?"

 

DADDY: "Well, firstly these Magnolias are not ours to pick, and secondly, their petals are very delicate, even a little bit of wind and the petals fall off. See how some of them are a little bit brown on the edges, Cornelia?"

 

CORNELIA: *Looks carefully.* "Yes, I do Daddy."

 

DADDY: "Well that is just from the gentle rain we had last night. It bruises the petals."

 

CORNELIA: "Oh that is a shame Daddy!" *Disappointed.* "I did so want to pick some for Moesje!"

 

DADDY: "Well, perhaps I could take your photo with them, and then you can share that with her. It is almost as good as giving Moesje the Magnolias."

 

CORNELIA: "That's a good idea, Daddy! I have another good idea. Would you like to hear it, Daddy?"

 

DADDY: "Of course I would, Cornelia. What is it?"

 

CORNELIA: "I am going to rechristen these flowers. Instead of calling them Magnolia flowers, we will call them Moesje flowers, and that way Moesje can feel extra special!"

 

DADDY: "I think that is a lovely idea! Now, say grumbly tummy."

 

CORNELIA: "Grumbly tummy!"

 

*Camera clicks and whirs.*

 

CORNELIA: "Moesje! Moesje my best friend! Look at these beautiful flowers! They are almost as big as we are, and are such a pretty pink colour! I'm going to call them Moesje flowers in your honour. Daddy says they are too fragile to pick and send to you, but I hope you like my picture with them just as much as if I had given you the Moesje flowers."

 

My bear Cornelia has made friends with a little bear named Moesje (www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/galleries/721577217879...). Moesje is a beautiful Bukowski Bear from Paal in Belgium. She has come to live with Mummy Marian (Marian Kloon (on and off)).She had been waiting in the dark corner of a shop with other bears for a long time, hoping someone would pick her up. All the bears were picked up, except Moesje. An appeal was made on the Internet and Mummy Marian sprang into action immediately! Moesje needs friends to love her, and Cornelia did not hesitate, for she has so much love to give to Moesje. Now Moesje's days are full of happiness.

 

Cornelia, I found in an antique and vintage market quite recently. She is a vintage edition Russ Bear from their Mohair Collection. She is made of deliberately mottled mohair to give her that vintage look. One of a limited edition of 10,000, she was designed by artist Carol Hosfstad and is completely handmade.
