Magenta Rhododendrons - Tecoma
On a visit the other weekend up into the Dandenong Ranges on the outskirts of Melbourne, I came upon this magnificent magenta rhododendron absolutely covered in a profusion of beautiful magenta blooms.
Rhododendron is a very large genus of about 1,024 species of woody plants in the heath family. They can be either evergreen or deciduous. Most species are native to eastern Asia and the Himalayan region, but smaller numbers occur elsewhere in Asia, and in North America, Europe and Australia.
Melbourne has experienced a colder and wetter than average winter this year, which is now bleeding well and truly into a wetter and greyer than average spring, however on the rare sunny days we are currently getting, the showing of flowers and blossoms is beautiful.
