Paddington and Scout: Royal Nurses by Appointment to Her Majesty the Queen

SCOUT: "Paddy! Paddy come quickly!"

PADDY: "What is it, Scout? What's the matter?" *Looks.* "Scout why do you have the first aid kit out, and what are you doing with those paper crowns?"

SCOUT: "Oh Paddy! Daddy is so sad!" *Frowns.* "We must help him!"

PADDY: "Well of course, Scout, but what does the first aid kit have to do with making Daddy better? Did he fall over? And if he did, what do our party paper crowns have to do with it?"

SCOUT: "Well, you see, Paddy, Daddy is sad because this morning he saw on the telly that The Queen is sick! She has the nasty virus that people get that bears don't! We need to go to London right now and make her better with our mini... mini..."

PADDY: "Ministrations, Scout?"

SCOUT: "Our good care. We can use the first aid kit to make her so much better, so then Daddy will be happy again. However as we are going to be looking after The Queen, we had better wear crowns, so we don't look out of place with all the princes and princesses, lords and ladies, because they all wear crowns too!"

PADDY: "Well why didn't you say so, Junior Royal Nurse Scout!"

SCOUT: "I just did Royal Nurse Paddy!"

PADDY: "Hhhmmm... I don't know if The Queen would like to be touched with surgeon's gloves. I think we need white gloves. I will borrow Daddy's white evening gloves. He hasn't worn them since this nasty virus started, so I'm sure he won't mind us borrowing them for The Queen."

SCOUT: "And The Queen won't like ordinary Dettol soap, as it smells kind of clinical. So I'll pop in some of this nice pretty smelling soap I found in Daddy's jumpers drawer. It has a pretty lady on the front and has writing in a foreign language, so it must be expensive and fit for The Queen."

PADDY: "Good idea Junior Royal Nurse Scout!"

DADDY: "Hullo Paddy. Hullo Scout. What are you doing with the first aid kit and wearing paper crowns on your head?"

PADDY: "Ahem... Daddy, I am Royal Nurse Paddy today."

SCOUT: "And I am Junior Royal Nurse Scout."

PADDY: "And we heard that you were sad because The Queen has the nasty virus, so Junior Royal Nurse Scout suggested that we should go to London to make her better."

SCOUT: "And then that will make you happy!"

DADDY: "Oh that is very lovely of both of you, but London is a long way for two little nurse bears to travel alone, and I would be even more upset if you left me. Besides, we are lucky, The Queen only has mild symptoms and she has her own royal physicians to help give her the very best care."

SCOUT: "Then what can we do to make you happy, Daddy?"

PADDY: "And help The Queen, Daddy?"

DADDY: "Well, what do you do better than anything and enjoy giving more than anything?"

SCOUT: "Big little bear hugs, Daddy!"

PADDY: "And snuffly kisses, Daddy!"

DADDY: "Excellent! Then perhaps you could wish The Queen, and any of our Flickr friends, like Mummy Kat, who might have the nasty virus lots of big little bear hugs and snuffly kisses. It will make them all feel so much better."

SCOUT: "Oh, what a good idea, Daddy!"

PADDY: "So, Your Majesty, we are sending you, Mummy Kat and any of our special Flickr friends who might have the nasty virus, lots of big little bear hugs and snuffly kisses!"

SCOUT: "To make you all feel soooo much better!"

What Paddy and Scout say is true, The Queen has contracted Coronavirus, but luckily her symptoms are mild. We wish Her Majesty, and any of our Flickr friends who might have Coronavirus lots of good wishes for a speedy recovery.

My Paddington Bear came to live with me in London when I was two years old (many, many years ago). He was hand made by my Great Aunt and he has a chocolate coloured felt hat, the brim of which had to be pinned up by a safety pin to stop it getting in his eyes. The collar of his mackintosh is made of the same felt. He wears wellington boots made from the same red leather used to make the toggles on his mackintosh.

He has travelled with me across the world and he and I have had many adventures together over the years. He is a very precious member of my small family.

Scout was a gift to Paddy from my friend. He is a Fair Trade Bear hand knitted in Africa. His name comes from the shop my friend found him in: Scout House. He tells me that life was very different where he came from, and Paddy is helping introduce him to many new experiences. Scout catches on quickly, and has proven to be a cheeky, but very lovable member of our closely knit family.
