This floor collapse simulator was built in partnership between the Erie County Division of Fire Safety and the Buffalo Fire Department. These videos and photos show recuits in the BFD probie class using the new simulator which allows instructors to simulate a floor collapse, prompting the students to follow the proper procedure for calling and cancelling a mayday radio transmission. The simulator is attached to the second floor of the existing maze in the indoor training tower. As firefighters exit the structure, the instructor pulls a lever, collapsing the floor and dropping the firefighter into a pile of soft foam. Photos and video by Tiger Schmittendorf
