On Thursday April 15th the grade 7’s went on a science trip to Norval Outdoor School in Georgetown Ontario. Classroom sessions were geared at discussing the food chain and investigating different ecosystems and ecotones.
The grade was divided up into Carnivores, Omnivores and Herbivores and played games of survival tag. The goal was to “eat” any animal on the food chain lower than you (If you were a Carnivore or Omnivore) while also eluding animals that might eat you as well as the hunters and the elements!
Students then investigated the fields, forests, ponds and streams for signs of wildlife. Some found animal droppings (from herbivores and carnivores), some found regurgitated owl food and others found skulls of decomposed animals!
We all made it back safe, full and more educated about the natural world in which we live.
