Holt Cemetery

The Cemeteries in New Orleans are probably some of the most photographed 'monuments' in the city. The grandeur of the elaborate above-ground tombs (or the elegant decay of the same) seem to draw photographers like moths to a flame.
Hidden out of sight from most of the tourists (and most locals) is the not-so-pretty side of these resting places. Holt Cemetery is known primarily as the home of the indigent, yet within it's meager iron fence lie the remains of veterans, beloved parents and children, and a surprising number of our great musicians.
And in many ways it still (to a photographer t least) retains a stark beauty.
