Living Tomb

A crumbling tomb still stands erect in the English Turn Cemetery outside of Braithwaite, Louisiana south of New Orleans. This cemetery, along with countless others in the rural Mississippi River delta downriver from New Orleans, has been devastated by flooding during hurricanes, most notably during Katrina in 2005 and Isaac in 2012. While most newer tombs washed away or were forced open by the raging tidal surge of that storm, this older 19th century structure withstood mother nature's onslaught losing only it's outward, physical identity.
