Second Line

Revelers 'Second Line' through the Economy Hall tent at the 2014 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival during a performance by clarinetist Tim Laughlin. The history of the Second Line may emanate from the circle dances in West Africa, but closer to home it's roots are traced to the dancing of slaves on Sundays in New Orleans' famed Congo Square. Once described as "a jazz funeral without a body", the Second Line today is rooted in the celebration of the moment by all who participate.
