Random Rainforest Shot.

Let me tell you about the trip...

Seven day trip to Costa Rica. We organised transfers everywhere because we had heard bad things about the roads - they aren't that bad. Most roads have quite slow speed limits so it would be no trouble to drive around. So much wildlife on the side of roads so driving yourself would allow for many stops to have a look.

Flew into Liberia. Nice little airport and not too hard to find our driver in the throng of people wanting to drive you places.

First stop, Nayara Springs Resort. Amazing place. Just a great place to stay. Would love to go back. Great food and wonderful people.

Tours:

Caño Negro Wild Life Refuge. Rough and long drive but nice to sit in a boat and see so much wildlife. Worth the trip.

Hanging Bridges (at the dam): Scared of heights like me? Scary bridges then. Only 2 or 3 that are really bad, others are easy. Lot's of wildlife to see up close. On a tour it might feel a bit rushed. I'd walk this one slowly next time.

Next stop, Westin Playa Conchal. It's an all inclusive resort. Not really my scene to be ordering my orange juice with 3 shots of vodka just after breakfast. Amazing looking golf course if you like that. Best thing we did here was just get out on the beach where no one is and enjoy your beach.

Photography: Took my Canon 7D and used the 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II with the 2x teleconverter most of the time (ends up at 640mm and f/5.6). Old camera and pushing the limits of the glass. Lots of poorly focused shots as shutter speeds got too low. Don't really like high (above 640) ISO on the 7D. I did use my 580 flash with a Better Beamer some of the time. It certainly bangs light into the shot but of course it gives a very unnatural look to the shot. Need a cheap 400mm f/2.8 prime :)

Lot's of shooting into dark trees with bright backlighting that gives horrid fringing with the lens setup. My colour correcting needs a lot of improvement. I'd not recommend to go pixel peeping at these type of shots. Very few will hold up.

Happy to discuss any specific questions here or PM if ya like.

Pura Vida!

Scott.
