Boss with out head

A Boss is an Architectural piece of ornamental carving covering the point where the ribs in a vault or ceiling cross.

These are on the ceiling of the cloisters at Norwich cathedral;

the beheaded religious figure was most probably intentionally disfigured by the current anti monastic ideas of the time in the fifteen century
