Stained glass......
A Grade 1 listed building, the Priory now acts as the Parish Church for Cartmel. It is well worth a visit, and is very interesting inside. The above "swirl" is taken from a photo I took of the simple stained glass window in the porch (the porch is not as old as the main building, I think).

The priory was founded in 1190 by William Marshal, created 1st Earl of Pembroke, intended for the Augustinian Canons and dedicated to Saint Mary the Virgin and Saint Michael.
Cartmel itself is a charming little place, well known for the race course and, for lovers of sweet things, Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding. I find it far too sweet, but it is very popular.
So, Priory, racing and a pudding...!
Cartmel itself is situated in an idyllic place, a few miles north of Grange over Sands and not far south of Lake Windermere. Until some boundary change made for administration purposes, the whole of this area was in Lancashire over the Sands.
