36/365: Catching Smoke
This was a lot of fun, but I could definitely use some more practice. Pictured is some candle smoke on black and then inverted into the negative, toned red in PIXLR, a great online image editor comparable to photoshop, but not nearly as powerful, but it is free, guess life's a tradeoff sometimes. I'll definitely try this again, because I've always wanted to do it. Could use a proper off camera flash and background though, and incense would have worked better for this one, since a candle stops smoking very quickly, if you use this technique you have to move fast. Anyway, hope you like it :)
HOW I MADE THIS IMAGE:
Nikon D80
Nikkor 50mm AF-D 1.8
ISO 100
f16
1/200th second exposure
a candle
black background (I used a shirt over a binder, propped up between a book and a water jug)
on board flash
You can check out PIXLR here: pixlr.com/editor/
Shot in California. Post Processing in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 and PIXLR.
