Panavia Tornado Gr.4 (v1.0.0)
The Panavia Tornado is a variable geometry, multi-role aircraft, designed and built by a consortium of European nations. Britain, Germany and Italy were involved with the development of this aircraft during the '70s and Tornados fly with their respective air forces currently. In addition Saudi Arabia has equipped its air force with Tornados.
There are three primary variants of the Tornado; the Tornado IDS (interdictor/strike) fighter-bomber, the suppression of enemy air defences Tornado ECR (electronic combat/reconnaissance) and the Tornado ADV (air defence variant) interceptor. The RAF initially operated a mixed fleet of ADV and IDS aircraft (F and Gr. variants respectively in RAF naming), however, after the introduction of the Eurofighter Typhoon, the F.3 was phased out and only Gr.4 and Gr.4A aircraft remain in service.
The aircraft has had a distinguished service history, proving to be perfect for ground attack and SEAD roles in the Gulf War, Bosnian War, Kosovo War, Iraq War, Afghanistan and, most recently, in Libya as part of Operation Ellamy. Its role has actually been quite different in each circumstance, but the flexibility of a variable geometry strike aircraft has enabled it to meet new challenges and strategies.
This model represents an RAF Gr.4 armed with two Stormshadow cruise missiles, two external fuel tanks, a LITENING targetting pod and a Sky Shadow electronic countermeasures pod.
Regarding the model:
I started work on this back in September, but having found some difficulty in building the landing gear and sweep action, I left it for a long time. Being at University now means my days aren't as structured as they were at work and as such, I never got round to finishing it. However, I made a big push on the model during Easter, and managed to complete it earlier this month. At more than 70 studs long and clocking in at over 1,500 pieces, this is one of the largest models I have ever designed virtually and is also one of the most complex.
As always, the file and instructions are for sale - for this monster, let's say £10.00 GBP or foreign equivalent.
