Chef for a Day: Chef Neal Cox & Contest Winner Ivan Marquez in the Houstonian kitchen
Each fall, Recipe for Success Foundation hosts the My Favorite Holiday Food Writing Contest, in which fourth graders from all over Houston submit essays about their family holiday food traditions. The lucky overall winner is honored at our annual Blue Plate Special Cafe Awards Luncheon in November before experiencing their prize: Chef for a Day in the kitchen with the Houstonian's executive chef, Neal Cox.
On January 25, 2014, this year's contest winner, Ivan Marquez from Matthys Elementary, spent a day touring the sprawling hotel kitchens and working with Chef Cox and his team to prepare a three-course meal for his family and educators.
