Jonathan Edwards

Jonathan Edwards was a theologian who was one of the main voices during the First Great Awakening.

The Great Awakening took place in Europe and then spread to New England during the 1730s and 1740s. It was a religious revival where Edwards would travel the New England area, not speaking out against the Church of England, but putting ideas in peoples head that there is more then one faith. This awakening helped reshape the Congregational church, Presbyterian church, Dutch Reformed church, and German Reformed church. Edwards would use these teachings to write pamphlets and essays on religious freedom.

Edwards died in 1758 and is buried in Princeton Cemetery in Princeton, NJ.
