William Penn Landing
William Penn was a philosopher and real estate entrepreneur from London England.
In 1682, James the Duke of York, later King James II, gave land in America over to William Penn. Penn would set sail and land in what would become Delaware. Penn was a devoted Quaker and helped colonize Delaware in the Quaker faith. With the rising of New Jersey and Marylands faiths, Penn wanted to expand his Quaker beliefs.
King James also gave him the land which would later be named for Penn, Pennsylvania. Penn would become the holder of more land in America then any other land holder, 45000 acres. Penn would sail up the Delaware River landing in present day Chester, Pa. He would then travel east where he would set up a Quaker village in what would become one of the biggest cities and ports, Philadelphia.
