League Park
League Park is a park located in Cleveland, Oh. But before it was just a park, it was a baseball stadium. The stadium opened in 1891 and saw its last game in 1946, but wasnt demolished until 1951. The wall here is one of two remaining parts that are left from that stadium. This was the exterior wall that lined the first base side. The only other part left is the original ticket booth that is out where right field was. Read the eextra part at the end to find out why I dont have a picture of the booth. League park opened as a baseball field for the Cleveland Spiders of the National League. The first pitch of the opening game was made by Cy Young who played for the Spiders. The Spiders would close down after 1899. The field wouildnt be used again until the Cleveland Indians franchise was started. The Indians would use the field from 1901 to 1946. The field would host the 1920 World Series in which the Indians won. Babe Ruth would also hit his 500th home run here. This place would also live in baseball history for a game between the Indians and Yankees on July 17, 1941. On the day before, July 16, Yankees hitter Joe Dimaggio singled to give him a 56 game hitting streak. That record still stands today and is beleived to be the one record in baseball that will never happen. The only reason its only 56, is because on July 17, Dimaggio went 0-4 ending the streak here. Other then baseball, it was also home to an NFL team, the Cleveland Rams which started there franchise in 1936 here and would play here until 1945 til the Rams moved to Los Angeles and are now in St Louis.
This is why i dont have a picture of the booth. If you are traveling and would like to see this field, it is located at the corner of Lexington Ave and E 66th St in Cleveland. I was amazed because of the history that happened here and that part of it still stood so I recommend going to see this but take this as a warning. I am in no way racest or prejudice but the way I found out it was still here was from the lady that gave me a tour of Progressive Field. She did not tell me the area it was in. There are many one way streets here and a very bad and run down area. I am not saying this to offend Clevelanders, but the area was bad. There were people sitting at the corner sitting on their bikes just hanging out. I am from the middle of Kentucky and was worried to stop and get out and walk around the park. I did get out here to take a few pictures and then left the area. Again, not prejudice or trying to offend any body, but just letting the travelers to be aware of your surroundings.
