Johnny Bench

Johnny Bench is a former baseball player who played catcher for the Cincinnati Reds for 17 seasons. He played from 1967-1983.

Many consider Bench the best catcher of all time. He was one of the key members of Cincinnati's Big Red Machine which won 2 World Series for the Reds. He would also help them win 2 other National League pennants and a total of 6 division championships. He was a 14 time All Star, 10 time Gold Glove winner, and 2 time National League MVP. He would be the 1968 NL Rookie of the Year and the 1976 World Series MVP.

These accomplishments would be the reason that the Reds retired his number 5 jersey. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989 with over 96% of the votes on his 1st ballot. He was also named to the Baseball All Century Team in 2000.

This plaque is of Johnny Bench and hangs in the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the Reds Hall of Fame in 1986, 2 and a half years before the Baseball Hall of Fame.
